The City of Foley is currently in a process to update the Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is an adopted public policy guide with the vision, goals and principles of the community for development. It is the guide the Planning Commission, City Council and City Administration follows when they consider the physical attributes of Foley for future decisions. The outcome of this planning process is new public policy for future recommendations in the City.
Now is time to look ahead and beyond, moving FOLEY FORWARD. How should we grow, and develop? What will be the character of this growth sector in the future? How can we continue to thrive? FOLEY FORWARD is a citywide dialogue that kicked off in 2017 to answer such important questions.
The Comprehensive Plan covers the entire City and the FOLEY FORWARD process is accomplishing this update based on quadrants of the City. For more information on these quadrants, take a look at the Plan Areas section of the website.
HOW THESE PLAN WORKS
FOLEY FORWARD will work to validate the City’s vision for the future and the City's aspirational principles. These will be used to articulate a corresponding set of policies and recommendations to guide future decisions regarding land use, development and capital improvements throughout the City. Each quadrant of the City will be considered with specific recommendations.
FOLEY FORWARD will be the process that updates the City's entire Comprehensive Plan. Right now the ALABAMA HIGHWAY-59 CORRIDOR and the NORTHWEST QUADRANT are under development with four of the six areas of the plan already having been adopted, DOWNTOWN, SOUTHEAST QUADRANT, SOUTHWEST QUADRANT and NORTHEAST QUADRANT.

What is Foley Forward?
Foley Forward is a process to update the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Foley. It will build on the city’s past plans, identify core critical opportunities, define a long-term vision for the community, and serve as a guide for future development.
What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan is a guide that expresses the vision and aspirations of a community. It is a public policy document that sets forth the long-range vision for development and related topics. The plan is not a legally binding document but serves as the foundation for the city’s budgeting process, zoning ordinances, development regulations, etc. A separate effort to update those regulations could be undertaken to implement the plan.
Why does Foley need to update its Comprehensive Plan?
In general, planning represents preparing for the future and good stewardship. Civic leaders can make decisions in the best interest of the community when they know the vision and aspirations of the community.
Is there a role for residents to get involved?
YES! Anyone who cares about Foley will be able to participate and contribute their ideas. During the Foley Forward process, there will be workshops, open houses, and input opportunities on the website for the community.
Do I have to be an expert to contribute ideas?
If you live, work, play, or worship in Foley, you are an expert. Who knows the community better than those who live or work here? Everyone is encouraged to attend. Families are welcome.
Who is helping the City with this process?
A consultant team has been hired and brings together expertise and experience in public engagement, community planning, and other needs.
